Looping animated short.

A cat turns into a TV.

The repetition of a seemingly pointless task

Waiting… (3:31)

This short doc is what would form the basis for my other short film “Waitology”.

A short documentary that takes a somewhat tongue-in-cheek look at the concept of time and waiting. It features a number of facts about waiting, with the ultimate message of the film being to value and get the most out of the time we have.

Lynn in 60 seconds (1:00)

This was an assignment as part of my MA to do a short profile on one of our classmates.

I liked the challenge of making a video with a 60-second time limit. I’ve included it here as I think it’s still a nice short with its usage of limited animation really giving it some character.

Lynn was also the producer of  “Waitology”

The real Feel Good System. (4:42)

The video store will never die!

This is an animated short I made quite a while ago now as part of my BA.

With a rough and ready art style that was inspired by Dr.Katz’s sqrigglevison. At the time, I was heavily influenced by Kevin Smith’s Films and 90s culture in general. Admittedly perhaps a bit too much in certain areas, but I still think the short finds its own voice and point of view.

The core concept for the short was born from my distaste of big corporations such as Starbucks and the underappreciated little guy, trying to make it in their own way. This is something that the title alludes to, but maybe doesn’t come across. The idea is “the feel-good system” is basically a way to live your life your way, not anyone else.

On another level, the film lightly explores the clash between ideals, the corporate world meeting 90 nostalgia that refuses to die.

I still think some of the jokes hold up quite well, but some of these ideas could have been explored further and made a deeper experience.

Looking back at these early works can be a little embarrassing, but seeing how I’ve developed as a writer and filmmaker, it acts as an interesting mile marker of sorts. These are characters and places that, although imperfect, are ones I would like to revisit again.
