GAME BOY PHOTOGRAPHY
GAME BOY Camera
Part of the fun of taking photos with the Game Boy camera is pushing the tech to its limits. Using it in ways that were never truly intended, and seeing what results can be achieved.
COLOUR, BUT HOW?
The Game Boy camera can’t natively take photos in colour but, through an old photography technique of using red, green and blue filters to take 3 separate images of the same subject and then combining them to make one colour image.
HISTORY
The Game Boy camera was first introduced in 1998 by Nintendo and was developed by Game Freak (best known for the Pokèmon series) At one time the Gameboy camera was the world’s smallest digital camera, appearing in the 1999 edition of the Guinness World Records. In addition to the GB camera, a printer accessory was also available.
The small unit allowed users to print their pictures on small seats of paper and stickers. The printer doesn’t use ink and works in a similar way to a receipt.
Nintendo and cameras didn’t stop there as future handhelds featured built-in cameras such as with the DSi range, and later the 3DS that could even take photos in 3D.
