The Legend Of Curt Runaway

This was another film I made at UCA. I produced the film.  It was directed by Yousup Song and written by Jamel Tapper Gray.

The has yet to be released or seen outside of its one screening at the UCA graduation show in 2020. Perhaps one day, it will see the light of day…

Archived here are on-set photos, a synopsis of the film and a short film that parodies the film’s production, before it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, then later re-green light and put back into production. 

The Legend of Curt Runaway was a short adventure comedy that also featured animated elements.

Malakie loves riding his bike and going on adventures, but above all, he loves pirates! His local antique store just so happens to have a rare and collectable pirate ship model. Malakie wants to buy it, but the store’s eccentric owner will not sell it to him, claiming that it is a one-of-a-kind replica of the legendary pirate Curt Runaways’s ship.  Malakie returns in the dead of night to steal the ship for himself, only to find the ship missing. Investigating further leads him to find a secret trap door leading to the basement that has been made to look like the inside of a pirate ship.

In the basement, Malakie finds the store owner waiting for him. Only now, he is dressed like a pirate and has sealed the model ship in a glass cabinet. The store owner now claims to be the legendary pirate Curt Runaway. The store owner has deluded himself into thinking that he is actually a real pirate, so he challenges Malakie to a duel, and the winner gets to take the ship. The so-called Curt Runway throws Malalkie a sword, but the epic battle is short-lived; the store owner trips and falls and is seemingly defeated. Malalkie takes pity on the old man, who is just as big a fan of pirates as he is. The two end up bonding over their passion for pirates and adventure.  The End.
